Gyokuro Tea
Single Estate Green Tea

Ingredients
Flavour Notes:
Aroma: Deeply vegetal, with seaweed, nori, and subtle floral undertones.
Flavour: Rich umami with layered sweetness, buttery smoothness, and hints of fresh spinach.
Finish: Long and elegant, with lingering savoury depth and a gentle sweetness.
Pairing: Best on its own, but pairs gracefully with sushi, sashimi, rice, or lightly seasoned seafood.
Origin Story:
Gyokuro, meaning “jade dew,” was first developed in the 1830s in Uji, Kyoto — the historic heart of Japanese tea cultivation. Farmers discovered that shading the tea bushes before harvest slowed photosynthesis, boosting chlorophyll and amino acids such as L-theanine. The result was a tea with unrivalled sweetness, savoury depth, and an emerald-green liquor that set it apart from all others. For nearly two centuries, Gyokuro has been considered the pinnacle of Japanese green tea, prized by connoisseurs and reserved for special occasions. Its cultivation and careful brewing remain a testament to Japanese craftsmanship and dedication to perfection.
