Gunpowder Tea

Single Estate Green Tea

A distinctive Chinese green tea known for its tightly rolled leaves, resembling small pellets. This unique shape helps preserve its freshness and bold, slightly smoky flavour. When steeped, the leaves slowly unfurl, releasing a rich, full-bodied taste with subtle notes of roasted nuts and a light vegetal undertone. Its striking flavour and depth have made it a popular choice among those who enjoy a more intense style of green tea.

Its robust profile makes it an ideal base for blends, including Moroccan Mint Tea. Enjoy it plain to appreciate its deep, smoky character, or pair it with lemon, honey, or fresh mint for a refreshing twist. Best brewed with slightly cooler water to bring out its smooth, balanced flavour.

Ingredients

100% Organic Green Tea.

Flavour Notes:

  • Aroma: Toasty and slightly smoky, with hints of dried grass and roasted nuts.
  • Flavour: Full-bodied and bold, with a smoky richness and a light vegetal, nutty undertone.
  • Finish: Smooth and lingering, with a slight astringency and toasted warmth.
  • Pairing: Pairs well with savoury dishes, grilled vegetables, or nuts. Also great with fresh mint, honey, or citrus.

Origin Story:

Gunpowder Green Tea has been produced in China for centuries, named for its pellet-like rolled leaves that resemble gunpowder grains. This rolling technique helps retain its flavour and freshness, making it highly valued for trade. Today, it remains a favourite for its bold character and versatility, forming the base for many traditional blends like Moroccan Mint Tea.
